First thing first: if you are in your early 20’s and or unmarried run far far away from this post. I do not want to scare you away from what the future may have in store for you. Do not look behind the curtain!
Jordan and I have been married for almost 9 years. We have two small kiddos so date nights out really don’t work for us. We have realized in this stage of our lives date days are where it is at. Send the kids to Grandma’s when they are awake, and go out between nap times. This way you actually get more alone and downtime.
Our kids are pretty good sleepers (knock on wood) and are both snoozing by 7:30 pm so each evening can either be time we individually spend out with friends, alone time, or time together. On this night we planned to spend time together…wait for it…canning. Okay I have just lost my thirty year old married readers. Are my seniors still with me? Remember all of those apples we picked in my apple picking post(here)? We put them to good use making apple pie filling and putting it in jars so that we can make a quick apple crumble all winter long.
Now before you even question it, let me tell you: Jordan was more than into it, he suggested it. There is nothing sexier than watching a man peel apples Tim the Toolman Taylor style. He manually used the apple slicer one time, was gone for a few minutes, and I turn around to see this happening. This is what takes place when a man is in the kitchen. Power tools somehow make it in too.
Our unspoken deal is that he takes care of coring and slicing the apples and I make the sauce, then we come together and bottle it. Doesn’t get much more romantic than that!
We also made an apple crumble and it was delicious. We finished off our date night with apple crumble topped with vanilla ice cream and watched the last episode of The Walking Dead on Netflix. This is how we do date night at home!
